As a student of Wichita State University, Marcillene struggled to walk across campus to attend classes.
“Sometimes I got to the point where I had to ask a random stranger to help walk me to class,” she said.
Marcillene experienced frequent trouble walking, weak muscles and even slurred speech. She struggled knowing what to do and constantly worried about the causes of her unexpected symptoms.
Without medical insurance or the ability to qualify for a tax credit through the Healthcare.gov website, she postponed a visit to the doctor.
“I tried doing a little research on my own and looked at WebMD and websites like that to try to relate my symptoms to a possible disease or sickness,” Marcillene said.
